November 2023 Student Minister’s Note

by: Lilly Hunter

Cold weather is finally upon us, and (much to Colton’s displeasure) that means I am singing Christmas carols. If I have to wear a coat, I am breaking out my rendition of Elvis in “White Christmas”. These songs, of coziness, family, hope, and unbridled happiness simply bring me joy. Despite the dreary weather there is hope and happiness to be had.

Christmas is something to look forward to all winter long- that is the reason for the placement of the holiday! There is life coming soon in the depths of darkness. My tree will be set up by mid- November, simply because there is never too many days of celebrating the birth of Jesus. While this holiday season reminds us of the miracle that has already been, it should also remind us of the hope that is to come. Christ will return!

The weather outside is not the only thing in our life that becomes dark and dreary for a season. Oftentimes our circumstances overshadow the light of Christ in our lives so that we feel lost and hopeless, even as believers. But just as the twinkling tree brings a soft light of hope to our living rooms so the impending resurrection and restoration of all believers should bring a light of hope to our souls. Revelation 22:1-5,7a tells us:

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever. “Look, I am coming soon!

Christ is returning for us! Just as He came on Christmas a a baby, so he will come in glory on the Day of the Lord. I pray as you ready your hearts and homes for Christmas that the joy of the return of Christ would be a constant part of your celebration.
