February 2023 Pastor’s Note

by Jeff Grimes

One of my favorite songs is “How Deep the Father’s Love.” What a perfect picture of true love. The Father’s love for us was so deep, that He sent His only Son to die for us.

Jesus’ words in John 15:13 say,

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”

Then Jesus goes on to say in John 15:15,

“No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends.”

I consider the close friends I have. Serving overseas in Afghanistan, I had an assistant who was a very close friend, still is to this day. The 56M, Chaplain Assistant, in the Army was tasked with many duties. One of those was to protect the Chaplain because the Chaplain is a non-combatant. I could not carry a weapon in combat, so my assistant was always by my side ready to protect me. As we ended our tour of duty and made it back home, he told meone day, “sir, it was an honor to serve with you and I would have taken a round (a bullet) to save your life.” What a friend! What love he showed me!

But, the reality is, he could save me in this life but only Jesus can save my life eternally.

Jesus gave His life so that your life and my life can be saved eternally.

Valentine’sDay is quickly approaching. Many will spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars to express their love for someone. The best way to show someone you love them is by telling them about Jesus. Give them the opportunity to respond to the love of Christ by sharing the Gospel with them.

YOU can help save a life eternally.
