December 2022 Pastor’s Note

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”

Isaiah 9:6-7

Jesus has many names but for us perhaps the greatest is Savior. The Christmas season is upon us! I pray that each of you will truly celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We will have several opportunities to celebrate and worship here at Calvary. I not only invite you and your family but also encourage you to invite a friend or someone special to come along with you.

Our Advent study for the ladies actually began in November, but you still have time to join. Our evening group meets on Mondays at 5pm. The daytime group meets on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. These studies will run through December 20th.

On December 18th during our morning worship service the choir will give a special presentation as we worship the birth of Jesus!

December 21st will be our Calvary Kids Christmas performance along with our Young Musicians nights. I love seeing these kids display the talent the Lord has blessed them with. We will wrap up the night with “Cookies with Santa.” The kids will hear a reading of the real Christmas story, enjoy some cookies and milk, receive a treat, and have the opportunity for pictures with Santa.

Christmas day we will gather for worship at 9am. Join us as we sing some familiar carols, hear the Word of the Lord, share in the Lord’s Supper, and then light our individual candles to celebrate Jesus, the light that has come into the world.

As you get into the giving spirit this Christmas, I encourage you to give generously to the Lottie Moon offering this December. Our goal at Calvary is $2500 this year. Your gifts in the previous year supported 3,650 Missionaries around the globe. 93 new people groups were engaged, 22,744 new churches were planted, 592,408 people heard the Gospel, 176,795 received Christ as their Savior, and 107,701 followed through in baptism. Each of you who gave helped make this possible.

Thank you all for everything you do for the Lord here at Calvary Baptist Church. It is a blessing to be your pastor.

Merry Christmas to each and every one of you!

Pastor Jeff
